Getting to Hanamaki Onsen: Tokyo, Sendai & More

Shin-Hanamaki is the Tohoku Shinkansen stop for Hanamaki Onsen. Reserve the hotel shuttle before you travel. The inns are in Yumoto and the valleys to the west, so the final road journey depends on the hotel.

Tokyo, Haneda and Narita

A stopping Yamabiko or Hayabusa covers Tokyo to Shin-Hanamaki in about three hours. Faster services pass Shin-Hanamaki. If your service passes Shin-Hanamaki, change at Sendai to a northbound train that stops there. Haneda’s rail and monorail connections reach Tokyo Station in about 30 minutes before the longer journey north.

From Narita, the JR Narita Express runs to Tokyo. Narita Airport Station serves Terminal 1. The Terminal 2·3 station serves Terminals 2 and 3. The walk to the station takes about five minutes from Terminals 1 and 2, or ten minutes from Terminal 3.

The private two-day van trips from Tokyo to Hanamaki or Tono include pickup and return at a central Tokyo address, with accommodation booked on your own.

Sendai and Sendai Airport

From Sendai, a Tohoku Shinkansen calling at Shin-Hanamaki takes about one hour. The hotel shuttle or a taxi continues to the village. For an airport arrival, the Sendai Airport Access Line reaches Sendai Station in about 20 minutes on a rapid train or 30 minutes on an ordinary service.

The daily Kenji Liner leaves Sendai Station East Exit stop 73 at 16:00 and is scheduled to reach Hanamaki Onsen at 18:53. Seats are taken without a reservation. The bus may arrive late in traffic or bad weather.

Morioka and the two Hanamaki stations

From Morioka, the Tohoku Main Line reaches Hanamaki Station in about 40 minutes. Public buses continue to the springs. A southbound Yamabiko or Hayabusa that calls at Shin-Hanamaki reaches the Shinkansen station, where hotel shuttles collect overnight guests.

The Kamaishi Line connects the two Hanamaki stations. One train leaves Shin-Hanamaki at 08:36 and reaches Hanamaki at 08:45. Hanamaki Station is the public-bus departure point for Yumoto and the western villages of Shidotaira, Osawa and Namari.
