Hanamaki Onsen Day-Use Baths: Hours & Prices

Koyokan is the first stop for a day bath in Yumoto, Hanamaki Onsen’s main hotel cluster. A day ticket admits you to one hotel’s baths.

Day baths in Yumoto

Koyokan has a rock open-air pool, individual pot baths and a cooling terrace. At Hanamaki no Yu, you bathe outdoors among bedrock with views of the surrounding landscape. Manten no Yu opens to the sky in a garden setting. Senshu no Yu at Hotel Senshukaku has a spacious communal bathing area, plentiful water, waterfall-style massage showers and pot baths. The main public baths at these hotels divide bathing into men’s and women’s areas.

Winter and cleaning closures

Manten no Yu closes for winter. Its regular Thursday break for draining and cleaning runs from 10:00–15:00. Horai-yu remains closed, with no reopening date.

Snow is heavier in the western onsen foothills from December to March than in Hanamaki’s eastern city area. Severe cold can close Kawabe no Yu, the women-only open-air pool beside the Toyosawa at Osawa. Yakushi no Yu offers indoor bathing in tile-lined tubs during the winter season.

Public buses to the baths

At Hanamaki Station, stop 4 serves the Hanamaki Onsen Line to Yumoto. An adult single costs ¥510 (about US$3.20). In the weekday example, the bus leaves at 14:53 and reaches the resort at 15:13. The final bus back leaves at 18:30 on weekdays and 18:15 on weekends, before the baths finish their evening hours.

At stop 3, the Yuguchi Line runs along the Toyosawa valley to Shidotaira, Osawa and Namari. Buses to Yumoto run on the Hanamaki Onsen Line. Travelers arriving by Shinkansen can take the Kamaishi Line from Shin-Hanamaki to Hanamaki Station and its public-bus stops.

Private baths and overnight stays

Small courtyard gardens frame the Shigaraki pottery tubs in Hotel Hanamaki’s reservable family baths. Book the family baths in advance. Each session lasts 45 minutes and costs ¥3,300 (about US$21) per room. Day-bath admission is paid in addition. The Yumoto hotels generally exclude tattooed guests from public bathing and direct them toward these private baths.

At Koyokan, overnight guests have baths in the hotel and can reserve the guest shuttle from the stations. The hotel buses carry overnight guests; day visitors travel to the resort by public bus, car or taxi. At Yusen Shidate in Shidotaira, every guest room has an open-air bath facing the stream.
